We see the world as we want to see it…

One of the many joys when being older, wiser and more experienced is the bewilderment you can still feel when what you’ve believed to be real for most of your life, suddenly is debunked. I am not just talking about the discovery at a way too late age that it is strange how three weeks before 5th of December, in Netherlands St Nicholas comes to us by boat from landlocked (!) Madrid in Spain (where he resides the rest of the year). I guess at least it is a slightly more realistic scenario than his derivative Santa Clause coming in a reindeer led sled traveling by air…
Slightly less interesting but more impactful is my recent discovery that in order to tell someone to pursue something, you need to tell them to peruse. Mind you, I was checking the correct spelling to know persue vs pursue, and it was very uncomfortable to learn that in fact neither is correct.
That’s 20 years of business communication wiped out! I always asked people to pursue my invoice (which still sounds logical to me)… ooops!
SPARK OF THE DAY
I must have read the words “for your perusal’ in incoming emails like many, many times, but in my weird functioning brain it always translated as “for your pursual”. Every single time! How blind can I be? Well, very!!
As entrepreneurs we are sometimes so stuck in our ways, we see the world as we want to see it. It made me think: what other realities are right under our nose, but our minds simply prefer to ignore?
For your perusal!
