The skills paradox

These past two weeks I’ve had to talk to a lot of people to find the root cause of an issue for one my consulting projects. One day, the customer made a by-the-by comment telling me how he was amazed at my ease to get people talking and opening up.

I myself have never thought of my communication skills as one of my differentiating strengths: I always consider my background in tech and data science as well as my international business experience for example as way more valuable.

SPARK OF THE DAY

The paradox of the things we’re naturally good at is that they come so easily to us that we don’t spend a second of a thought considering them, let alone attaching value to them. While these hidden treasures might well be the secret sauce that actually delivers us our success…

Why not ask a few people to tell you what makes you special —> you might be equally surprised ✨

After-note: writing this spark reminded me of a concept we introduce in the leadership module of our Scale Beyond program. In case you’re interested to deep dive into your “blind spots”, I can strongly recommend to check out the so called Johari Window — there are plenty of great resources to be found online, including this video: https://youtu.be/SQmO5_5J2r0
