Staying ignorant is easy, but never an excuse for failure

One of the greatest management lessons I’ve received in my life was from the then Chief Operating Officer at Orange Business Services back when I was working there as a business analyst.
Instead of pretending to be the big boss who knows it all as his predecessors had done, he didn’t hesitate to ask the most basic of questions to get to the bottom of understanding an issue, before directing his actions.
He taught me that there are no stupid questions – or that maybe there are, but these are only stupid questions to the person who can’t look beyond that question and untangle the true depth of complexity behind.
SPARK OF THE DAY
If even a COO of a large 10 billion dollar company can admit to not even know the basics, there is no excuse for anyone else to fear looking stupid.
Not knowing can never be an excuse for failure! Never be the ignorant…
Stupid? At solitaire, that very first time you need know that in order to play, you need to remove the peg in the middle… you would not not play because you would be afraid to ask how to get started, right?
