Do you play safe or dare to take chances?

“Dare to suck”
~ Steven Tyler – Aerosmith

In my experience when it comes to appreciating art & creativity there are two types of people:

Those who only buy the hit songs & prized books, go to the restaurants with the queues outside, and prefer business casual over fashion – in short: the people who don’t like risk and stay safe in the mediocrity of the masses. That would be most of us!

Then there are the people who like to try out new things: they accept that some experiences may turn out a waste of time if not worse, while other turn out amazing & life changing – these people count on that the greats will cancel out the bads.

SPARK OF THE DAY

To produce that amazing book, song, painting, recipe or, in the case of an entrepreneur, product or service, you will have to go through many mediocre and sometimes even crappy versions of ideas, before genius reveals itself.

Just like the princess who needed to kiss a lot of frogs before finding her prince; Steven Tyler who had to write a lot of crappy songs for his hits to top the charts; Michael Jordan who had so miss 9000 shots to win countless titles; as an entrepreneur you can’t be brilliant without producing crap either.

So if excellence is your trademark, I say with Steven Tyler: dare to suck!
