The question keeps going around in my head: is this really progress?

A company in The Netherlands has come up with a new machine that can recognise for pre-hatched eggs if the chick is going to be an economically viable hen or a loss making rooster.

Of course I understand the benefit of not having to dispose of 12 billion rooster chicks in the shredder every year (see this video for the brutal reality), as the unhatched eggs can now be used as animal fodder.

Sometimes I wonder… aren’t we trying to find solutions for problems that we shouldn’t be having in the first place?

In the end, we define where this world is heading towards…
