Quick wins always beat the longer term

When faced with a problem, it is very tempting to “simply” focus on finding a solution as soon as possible to satisfy the disgruntled customer or other stakeholder demanding you to sort things out.

It is equally tempting as the business leader or managing director to be and stay in that mode of firefighting… there is always something to fix, isn’t there… and there will always be something to fix if you always stay at the surface!

Firefighting is safe, as it keeps you from having to ask why things are happening and then commit to freeing up additional budget and resources needed to deep dive, understand and resolve the issues that lie behind… 

SPARK OF THE DAY

When having been in business for a while, you have to ask yourself: am I still driven by a curiosity to want to know every little detail what is happening in my business or have I grown to become more comfortable focusing on the quick wins that don’t require extensive use of my time and resources… 

In business there are quick wins and long term solutions – make sure to continue to give both your equal attention!
