We all know the myth of startups having overnight success while in reality they have been hustling outside of the limelight for years…

The other day someone asked me the secret to having been able to launch large clients; once you have them, it looks so easy from the outside. The reality also here is that it takes years of hard work with little to no pay-off, starting with simply establishing connections…

When you’re a startup or small business, don’t expect any large organisation to do business with you just based on a proposal. They will want to do their due diligence, often consisting of getting to know you, your team, your business and finding proof of your capabilities for taking on large scale projects. To be ready to do business with a serious customer, you need to invest in regular “hi, how are you” meetings, maybe helping out taking on a small job here or there building both trust and presence.

The best deals are not the ones you have to chase after, but the ones that come to you. Not when you need them, but when the customer is ready to take you on as their partner.
